At Blackrock Architecture, we believe that being part of the local community means more than simply designing buildings and securing planning permissions. Sometimes it’s about helping where we can.
Recently, our landlords, East Kent Spatial Development Company (EKSDC), asked if we could provide some architectural assistance to help with a planning application for new signage at their premises. It was a relatively straightforward piece of work, but instead of sending an invoice, we asked for something different.
Rather than paying us, we suggested they make a £100 donation to Canterbury Food Bank.
We’re delighted that they were more than happy to support the idea, and the donation has now been made. Seeing organisations come together to help local people is something we’re incredibly proud to be part of.
Canterbury Food Bank provides essential support to individuals and families across our community who are facing difficult times. Their recent acknowledgement highlighted just how important every donation is, with every £1 received generating almost £7 of social value through the services they provide.
As architectural designers, we’re fortunate to work on exciting projects across Kent every day, but it’s equally important to remember that even small gestures can make a meaningful difference. This was only a modest contribution, yet we hope it helps in some small way.
Supporting our local community is something we’d like to do much more of in the future. Whether that’s offering professional expertise to local charities, helping community organisations, or finding other ways to give back, we believe businesses have a responsibility to use their skills for the benefit of others whenever they can.
