Procurement Method: Fully managed by client (DCM Developments Ltd) along with appointing subcontractors and purchasing high value materials direct from suppliers.
Construction Technique: Traditional loft conversion techniques insulating between and under roof timbers along with creating new timber framed dormer windows.
Blackrock Architecture Appointment: When DCM Developments approached us to design the loft conversion to their own family home, we were genuinely delighted. Over the years we have developed an excellent working relationship with Danny and the team, delivering a number of successful projects together. Being trusted to design their own home was a real privilege and a testament to the confidence they place in our service.
Planning permission was secured for the conversion of this semi-detached bungalow through the introduction of a modest increase in ridge height together with carefully designed front and rear dormers. The approved scheme transformed what was previously a single-storey home into a spacious family property, creating two generous additional bedrooms, a bright landing and a luxurious shower room.
Rather than simply adding floor space, the design was carefully considered to ensure the new accommodation felt like it had always been part of the original house. The spacious landing creates a welcoming first impression, whilst the bedrooms make full use of the roof form and enjoy excellent natural light.
Externally, the aim was to create a contemporary extension that complements the existing bungalow without overwhelming it. Crisp aluminium cladding, natural slate roofing and black aluminium windows combine to produce a clean, modern appearance that gives the property a completely new identity whilst remaining sympathetic to its surroundings.
